Toulouse Lautrec

How does Toulouse Lautrec portray people that are outcasted in society in an empathetic light. How was his work radical at the time?
I was initially drawn to his work because of his gestural use of material, colour palette and in his shorter words, where he chooses to focus the detail and leave the background to show through. Looking further into him and his story; because of his disability he felt a sense of alienation, He found comfort in being with other people who were also seen as outcasts. He regulated brothels, became friends with the women working at them and they began modelling for him. He shows these women as human, equal, in his work they weren't portrayed as dirty how they were by other artists and society.
